Love Poem

They never spoke about it
But it was always there
Now slow to forget
And too far to surrender
She always loved him a little bit more

There were so many ways, of feeling, thinking
Each quite separate
Tempers would rise in a sudden blaze,
Of someone coming twitch and shake the heart
Simply there was no calm

Lying apart now, each in a separate bed
He with the telly on, keeping the lights on late
She like a girl, sketching future dreams
How cool they lie; they hardly touch
One feeling little, the other too much.

Indifference lays a cold hand on the heart
We need the violence to keep us warm
When then will we learn to untie?
What monstrous kind of sword
Can sever hearts and still we do not die?
