Will You Walk With Me?

Will you walk with me, when I am quiet;
When I have no words to speak or comfort?
Will you come alongside when I am empty;
Understand my thoughts dry up inside me?

Would you sit with me, a quiet hour, friend?
Not demand I give more answers
See how much I need the silence
Don't fill me with your insistent sounds

Cos when I was mute, I was straining to hear...

I Promise you, I'm always there
When your heart is filled with sorrow and despair
And I'll carry you when you need a Friend
But lift your head, stop looking down,
You'll know my footprints are in the sand.

And now I can feel You when You say

"You'll find My footprints in the sand"

For the Love of Food

I have to admit that Valentine's Day for the past years have been, largely, a non-affair for me. Owing to sleight of coincidence, the time-is-not-yet-to-be company or perhaps my own avoidance of the bah-humbug day. But in the midst of CNY now, the upcoming red-lettered day has been catching my attention and in the least likely places of all - a food magazine. So why not, I thought, wax lyrical on the two subjects that can rouse up the most fervent of desires and obsessive of inclinations.

So here I am, glass of spirit in hand (concocted mix of gin and mimosa liqueur, shaken not stirred), loneself company and trusty laptop to muse. Thinking back to my chagrin, though collector of tomes of great chef books, I realised that I have never before found the motivation to whip up a menu to seduce. Yes, I did cook for awhile in a long time ago relationship but the menu seemed more like a list of what madam would instruct the help to cook for daily dinners - familiar but non-exciting dishes like black pepper chicken, fried eggs with onions and sauteed veg - hardly stuff to be used in the seduction stakes. Although that I've been moved to put on an apron for a guy says volumes... still, as I'm heading steadily towards the end spectrum of 3-0, I can't help but wonder what it would be like to be in something which would have me willingly labour over the stove for half an afternoon and grime aside, to anticipate the appreciative look of wonder in the eyes. Scented artichokes, a citrus clash of flavours, spiced jellyfish and mint leaves (let's get fresh, eh) would probably figure in my fantasy seduction menu. The intention is to provoke, confound and eventually tempt the tastebuds (and eventually the man) into exploring ironic combinations. If the menu falls apart, hey, at least it'll provide a good laugh to remember! Case in point, that I have always found an underlying sensual, occasionally tempestuous current in both love and food.

I can recall only once in my life, has my guy ever bothered to cook for me (instant noodles do not count, my dear) and I still remember what he made to this day. Not because it was unforgettably delicious. To the opposite effect rather, the chicken in orange sauce combination had a heavy hand in the citrus juice mixed in a flour and water sauce that wasn't exactly the best I had, but it was the loveliest effort and eaten off my room floor at that time. The chicken was left unfinished but he sure scored brownie points afterwards for effort!

I'm coming to realise that passion for food and love (the romantic one at least) run parallel in many aspects - the attraction of visuals, the desire to have and savour, the compulsion to deconstruct and understand, and finally, satiation. It even seems, that the type of food I put in my man's mouth and tummy, reflects the relationship to a large extent as well. If there's a menu for seduction, why not a menu to ensnare, for those with more permanent intentions. I'm on a hunt to fine tune my seduction menu this year, per chance it might come in handy some day. Till then, candle-lit dinners sound just fine by me.

He stands by me

So many thoughts, so many pathways, but I've been listening to this song and I love the lyrics. It's my soundtrack for now.

Sometime I think I know where I stand without doubt
But the ground I put my feet on only shakes me about
I don't know how it is, that I have gone the wrong way
I'm left empty inside, with my heart lost and astray

Chorus
Oh Lord, help me to find myself
The one that you believe that I could be
Lead me and guide me to, walk the right way
With your love in my heart, I know I won't go astray

Sometimes I search for God to ask him into my heart
But I never let him stay with me
I pry us apart
Instead I let the pain of my past cloud up my mind
And all the time it is me that I must fight

Chorus

Bridge
Then I can stand my feet, on solid ground
Ready to face what spins me around
My heart needn't fear, for He stands with me
I have the Lord and now, I have me

Wanderlust.. again

Working on a vacation journal does nothing for my wanderlust. Still, I found some nice stuff I can write in:

The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page.
Overlooking the sea, contemplating the waves as they kiss the shore ever so gently.
My favourite thing is to go to where I've never been.
Half the fun of travel is the aesthetic of lostness.
Journeys, like artists, are born and not made.
Travelling in the company of those we love is home in motion.
What a grape day for wine tasting!

Dream A Little Dream

Sweet dreams till sunbeams find you, sweet dreams that keep all worries far behind you

Sunday Musings

Pix above: Me and pretty bestie Myrelle, Fri nite out at PS Cafe with the girls for her bday

Before I went for service today, I wanted to blog about the reasons why people go the church every Sunday and their behaviours there. And like deja vu, the sermon today was just about that subject. The preacher also asked what's the difference between a Christian and non-believer/other religious people who still does good works. It was something I've been asking.

But really, after a week of being an irritable porcupine for reasons the besties would know... I found peace again today. I know He's faithful, I know I'm blessed. I feel my restless heart quieten and eager to speak with Him again. He knows my needs even the deepest darkest stuff I fail to articulate.

It's hard to try to be all that when I'm at work when all I have to go on with sometimes is sheer bluster of confidence and show of bravado just to get people to listen. And it's hard to keep pride in check when you get impatient with people who are supposed to know better. I haven't been very gracious or humble lately, and I still struggle with the being nice to people part when you know they'd walk all over you if you don't keep up that game, and being a first-class bitch so that you get to stay in control. I play at jekyll and hyde all the time. It's disappointing when I played nice, that I still got crap. I was irritable cos I've been playing at those games the whole week. And with Christ convicting me, I kinda felt annoyed with myself. Then I felt annoyed cos it don't seem like I have a choice.

Still, grateful to besties who have started going to church again and asking me along, and also looking forward to a long awaited, much needed dive trip. I miss the view.

Draw Me Close

I like things that are real. Too many things are faked in this time and age. Hell, even sincerity can be faked.

I think I've reaquainted myself with faith again these days. Not just that going to church part, that's just the physical. I've come to realise again, that living with Him, doesn't mean a perfect life. And yes, I've always wanted perfection. I wanted everything. I want everything and at the same time, all at once please. In fact, it can be a downright hard life. Bcos you are not like the others, bcos you are living in the world but not by its rules. But no, it don't mean that everything you desire will come to fruition. No, Christian living is not like that.

To me now, it means laying your life before Him, asking Him to draw you closer. Even when you seem to be asking "But aren't you my God too?" when you feel like someone else deserves more grace, when you've confessed everything and still seem inadequate. It's the knowing that in your imperfection, He encompasses all things to bring about grace and peace.

I don't really care if it's said that religion is a psychological thing. Once I asked somebody what faith was. He said it's not something to be explained by science. Cos if it were, it won't be called 'faith' anymore. Many years on, I still remember that lesson from a non Christian. Which just really makes me believe that faith does not discriminate if you attend church or not, or what spiritual label you have. Like what I said in my previous posts, it's not something you shout out. But something that's in your heart and branded in your soul. No matter how lost or far off you are, keep it simple and listen very hard to the whispers that are caught from the wind.
